This project officially came to life on March 18, 2020 when I endeavored to create a postcard a day to make visible the things I discover in the world in which I inhabit throughout the duration of quarantine and social distancing, now normalized due to COVID-19.
Part of my stress/anxiety management is walking anywhere from 5-7 miles a day, usually accompanied by my dog, Joon, despite the weather. This is one of the daily rituals I have adopted to also help with my discovery process. The miles translate, in essence as layered loops that alter slightly based on routes.
The postcards begin as photos I take with my iPhone as it also tracks my steps and distances - including maps of movements. Photos are digitally printed onto drawing paper and then altered further with materials found in my studio. Each postcard also has text, significant to the day or discovered image selected for the postcard.
The postcards will end when social distancing ends and daily movements return to normal patterns of movement, including my return to school and teaching my classes.
Stay tuned for more…..and details.
